I want to say to Riley,
"Soon you'll be a duck"
but I never made it that far.

Two more.
Thanks Friend, I’ll Call it my Curse.
One simple Negative.
I was going to throw it away, but I never did.
It’s a remnant of my history.
I’ve been lonely since I’ve had it,
So maybe that tells me you’re a witch.
I can’t say.
What’s passed is the past and what we don’t know is still what we don’t know.
So let’s fall in love.
All we do is close our eyes and see each other.
Don’t open them too soon, because you will see a man who has blinded himself with visions of you and himself.
Walking hand in hand, in a field,
Trees strewn about the dream.
Then sitting under a wooden fence,
Laughing about what ever they felt like.
About the sunset behind them, almost as warm as her smile.
He will open his eyes and catch you staring at him,
In the intermission of sight and daydreams.
I open my eyes again to find you staring but you don’t blink.
There is a hallway, a uniform, a bird, a staircase, You.
What Came Out of the Notebook
1. Blue.
Crocodiles couldn’t compliment my skill with a bo staff.
You make the call.
WHAT IS ORGANIC? Sad Ice Cream.
Omit “Eat for breakfast”. Definite End. Excerpts.
Incorporate self and pronouns. Expand on the star’s wife.
Try the narrative. “Absolutely” unnecessary.
Feeling of water on clothes. No “wasted time looking for love”.
Well, look at the poem.
Huh? Okay, see you later.

I rewrote some stuff
LIVING ON STARS
I formed a band named Moby Slick and I tour the countryside with people who love me and my style,
Spreading music of psychedelia to the crowds who adore us.
We play a little bit of grunge too.
I think I’m misunderstood by the public,
But they still love me.
I don’t care so much about my fame.
I don’t like the fact that people can never pronounce my name correctly and look at me every time I go out.
So I moved to the countryside with my wife.
She steals garden globes from other people’s yards because “they’re so pretty”.
She scares people when she smiles,
And especially when she laughs.
People die in mystery and wonder
She scares the traveling salesmen away so I won’t have to form an army of dogs for my protection.
She reads instruction manuals and romance novels,
But still loves to watch me play with my fingers to the strings and my head to the sky.
Gender Strato-G
I walked into this guitar store
Expecting a nice Telecaster
And I ended up walking into
A sloppy medley of cheating on creation.
It was all not real.
Leaving the store with
A sour taste in my mouth was the only thing
That I could do.
But the posters were nice.
Sarah’s Song
She was only five and she asked me
What her dream was.
I told her that it was whatever she loved to Do.
Now Sarah is eighteen.
She holds a gun and says,
“Reach for the sky,
It’s the only way you’ll achieve your dreams.”
Later that night, I saw a shooting star.
I did what most people do and
I fell in love with her.
But what shot my heart--
It's been a great year guys. See you later.

So I wrote a lot...
Still
- perk at the scraping of church bells
- afraid of the Grimace
- making you stronger by not killing you
- picking on cancer
- pressed beneath St. Genevieve
- want to be a gunfighter
- sitting in zazen
- think I'm a pigeon
- engineering metropolis
- washing sherbet on barn boards
- my bearded heart
- think the assonant chord sounds dirty
- incoherently wailing in loving memory of Bigfoot
- a dandy lion
I Curse
My further inability
to discern the fiction
of bunkbeds and babysitters
peppering my eyelids
from behind hedges
to discern the fiction
of bunkbeds and babysitters
peppering my eyelids
from behind hedges

Necromancer
Every barn has a skeleton
revealed by fire
with children and secret-keepers
dancing red beside
but god and money
are well kept and powerless
still

Update on the Friday Reading
The reading is going to be at 9pm instead of at 8:30pm, because the some members of the fiction collective need to get outta work later. Let me know if this is a problem.
