Belated Texas poem that was written on time but not posted until now

If I was Big Like Texas

I could Ride
grizzled buffalo and the world
would open its rusty box for me.

Susy Does Texas...

Government Blankets

I never saw myself as a cowgirl; go ask the horse,
if he’ll take your calls.

Although, if you were a better liar and trust weren’t my pony,
we could loose our chapped legs,

Regret lives in bolo ties,
ties and tassels. But everyone sees

when your legs touch. So it’s no wonder
I’m afraid of apples.

A Brief History of the Cosmos and Texas

The dandelions are wearing hats and smoking
cigars; everything on the sidewalk has

a name. Look at the sky: hovering drunk
drivers without cars or circadian rhythms.

Manifest Destiny

a picture of thistlethorns cut
me as I tripped into snow circles.
before it was a reflection on asphalt
that made night into something it wasn't.

I want so much for there to be a you to tell me

to head back to Texas
where I can be a gunfighter
and gather these teeth
to be planted by springtime.

Rodney's Texas Poem

recovered from http://thefugitivestars.blogspot.com/

My Weekend in the TX

I met her on an island in Nebraska.
Something told me that she was something special to me.
I asked her out to a movie.
She said "yes", and my heart got all warm and melty.
Minutes came, hours passed, days went.
By then, we were a unity.
We had become inseperable from each other.
So, I told her, "Come with me".
We ended up packing the truck.
The bags, the rags, and the rum.
Going for a winter vacation,
To a little south of tranquility we would come.

Took our ride to Corpus Christi.
Parked right out on the beach.
Cracked open an ice cold.... Pepsi.
Took in the waves that would stretch and reach.
I gave her a sand-wash.
She did the same to me.
We laughed and rolled on each other into the gulf,
Happily.
We later walked down the beach,
Eyes to eyes, hand in hand.
She was my girl.
I was her man.
Lost into each other's eyes,
I didn't know how we survived.
But we were going to love each other,
We would have the night of our lives.

I came to awaken feeling well,
But she was not the same.
I was ready for the warm day,
But she didn't want to play my games.
Things went south from then on.
I returned to the room.
She was leading another man on......

I drove home from Texas.
Alone, my heart wrenched with pain.
Not going back for her,
Not going back again.
I had to take out my anger,
Just as mean as I could be,
So I pulled an "Ozzy" on the Alamo,
And got away scot-free!

I look back on my time,
In the Corpus Christi Sun,
So many Texas roads lead to heartbreak,
Well....
I guess I've traveled one.

At This Party

a girl told me she went to texas
a & m. I asked her if the a stood
for absinthe. she said no.

we didn’t talk much after that.

The Heart of Texas

The skies clear, the air crisp
Explosion
Fire scorches, fumes suffocate
Lift off
A frightening experience, a awesome spectacle
Ascent
A calm, a quiet
Weightlessness
A different view, a scary thought
Beauty

Texas or Bust

Texas or Bust

Off to the great state
of tobacco-chewing,
cowboy-hat wearing,
boot stomping giants.

They seemed so splendid
from my high north chair,
but, after all, the sun
really did set in the south.

Mission 2

fugitives,

your mission this week is to write a poem about texas. i know you will all accomplish this task, & by doing so, save the world (which, coincidentally, includes texas).

please post your poems as a new post. also, please label them as mission 2. you'll find a spot to label them in the lower left hand corner of the post window.

don't forget to bring copies to the meeting on thursday. otherwise the great state of texas will fall.
